TURKEY RUN – started out as bluegrass/country-rock band initially. In fact, Robert played stand up bass and there was no drummer. Turkey Run, in order to compete with their rivals, Wheatfield, decided to go “electric” at the Bluegrass Festival which resulted in them being banned! Turkey Run became known for having the mini “wall of sound” which they built directly from the Grateful Dead’s system with their blessing. They even used the sound system themselves a couple times when in the area.Turkey Run was the first band to go “electric” at the Oregon Country Fair (initially known as the Renaissance Fair), which they did without prior permission from the event. It was not well received by the powers that be at the time.
Turkey Run was banned from the Bluegrass Festival because they didn’t stick to the traditional bluegrass genre in their choices of songs for their set list!
Turkey Run performed with Country Joe McDonald, Holy Modal Rounders & I can’t remember who else right now. Rindy Ross personally confirmed to me a couple years ago that Turkey Run was SEAFOOD MAMAS mentor in the early years – pre-QUARTERFLASH.

I lived across the street from these guys on W. 5th. Andy Frances was their manager. Major flashback!
